Introducing Community Orchestras NZ!

We've Arrived!

Community Orchestras NZ is now a public association for community ensembles in New Zealand.

Amateur orchestras and bands around NZ are brilliant examples of creative, persistent and community-minded musical expression in our country. They are outstanding success stories. But most are also stories of establishment in isolation. There are also obvious leadership skills and innovative solutions that have been gained and could be shared to enrich our efforts in New Zealand.

At the same time there are unmet needs that some groups are shouldering and you may be able to help.

Cost to You

Nothing at this stage. It is more important that we know what your thoughts are about an association in New Zealand. How can we collaborate more? Tell us about the needs that you have that an association could help with. As importantly, what are the strengths and resources which you are willing to share with others who need your support.

Benefits for your group

There are potential benefits from an Association for players, conductors, librarians, committee members and supporters alike. Not least, our audiences would stand to reap the benefits of us all working together to build and extend the rewards of community music.

Our Website

Our website here will be the main vehicle for showcasing and sharing information about and for the many community music-making groups in our country.

It currently features a full directory of community orchestras throughout New Zealand, the first time this has been put together in one place. Your group should be there. Some information may be inaccurate or incomplete, but you can help us to put it right.

Among the useful things we want to include on this new website, is also a section about the concerts that New Zealand community orchestras put on. Help us to build this up and show off your activities.

Can You Help?

We'd love you to contribute: let us know what you think, send us information about your group, tell us your story, contribute an opinion, run a workshop, volunteer your time. Whatever you would and could do.
