Together, we aim to extend the musical landscape in New Zealand, and help community orchestras flourish and enrich the cultural life of our communities and provide a soundtrack to our nation's story.
Across the world, amateur orchestras, like their professional counterparts are adapting to change and adopting a range of new approaches and activities to extend and broaden their impact.
We want the Association to monitor this activity abroad and share it with members in New Zealand as a means of inspiration and encouragement.
Our mission is to highlight New Zealand’s amazing community music groups from Cape Reinga to Stewart Island — orchestras, chamber groups, wind orchestras, symphonic bands, jazz orchestras, and youth orchestras — and foster a collaborative, supportive, enriching and inspiring network between them.
Our vision extends beyond concert activity. We are more than groups of individuals who play together; we are a comprehensive team bound by a shared love of music and a collective will to learn, rehearse, teach, organise, and manage, and a shared purpose of sharing our music with those around us.
Although concerts are a primary objective of orchestras, our hope is to deepen and extend orchestras’ understanding of their roles and impact beyond just performing.
Our vision - what's next?

We're hoping that Community Orchestras NZ will be a means to foster a vibrant, collaborative network of our orchestras. If you'd like to endorse this, or better still help, please let us know. At the very least we'll send you an occasional email or two.
