Description

Malaga Sā means Sacred Journey. Its the principal theme for a Pasifika founded and lead arts and performance group for Porirua. It will expand to include a full symphony orchestra, a dance company, actors, dancers and choirs. For an orchestra there is nothing that is uniquely and exclusively Pasifika focused.  Other groups have very Euro-Centric focuses where our Pacific identity and ethnicity is often lost or not respected. We have already started as a group of volunteer whanau and children. All Pasifika, all orchestral strings players. We have a hugely exciting roadmap which celebrates our point of difference.

We aim to create opportunities for Pasifika youth by making pathways for them in Arts and Performance. We care for a cater to Pasifika values of faith, service and aiga or whanau and village/community. Our Vision Statement: To Inspire, Empower and Educate through our Pasifika Creative and Performing Arts.

Can you help?

We have compiled a list of community orchestras and orchestral groups across Aotearoa New Zealand. While we believe this list to be comprehensive, we understand there may be omissions. If your orchestra is missing, please let us know. We strive for accuracy but mistakes can happen. Please share any corrections or additional information you have about your group.
